Baked beans are usually an after thought that I dig up from my pantry to serve at our BBQ's. This baked beans with ground beef recipes is so good, you'll want to make it the star of the show! It definitely takes a little more effort then just popping open a can, but I'm sure you'll agree it is well worth it. Canned beans are tossed with browned ground beef, crispy beef bacon pieces, sautéed onions and a homemade sauce. Serve it on it's own with some crusty bread, or at your next BBQ get together.

Ingredients
- Canned great northern beans, drained and rinsed: They are my favorite kind to use here because they have a mild flavor, creamy texture, and hold their shape well while baking. You can use navy beans, which is a little more classic, if you'd prefer.
- Ground beef: Adds meaty goodness to the recipe.
- Onion
- Beef facon: Adds a smokey and salty flavor.
- Molasses: Helps thicken the sauce and provides a sweet and complex flavor profile.
- BBQ sauce: Use your favorite one! You can even try a spicy one for an added kick.
- Dark brown sugar or coconut sugar
- Ketchup: Adds a richness of tomato and vinegary goodness. As well as a thicker texture to the beans.
- Worcestershire sauce: Adds a savory and rich umami flavor.
- Dijon mustard: Adds a tangy and lightly spicy element that helps balance the the sweetness.
- Spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder)
How to make baked beans with ground beef:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Start by browning the diced beef facon in a pan for 5-6 minutes. Add in the diced onion and cook an additional 5 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Next, add the ground beef to the pan and use a fork to break up the clumps. Cook until all the beef is browned.
- While the beef is browning, whisk together the molasses, BBQ sauce, dark brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and spices.
- When the beef is browned, pour in the canned beans and sauce. Mix well.
- Transfer to the oven and bake for 1 hour, covered.
- Turn the temp to 375F and bake an additional 15 minutes, uncovered.
Storing and reheating:
Refrigerate for 3-4 days in an airtight container. Reheat in the oven until warmed through.
Tips and tricks for baked beans with ground beef:
- Add a little BBQ sauce mixed with water if you need to rehydrate the beans a little before reheating.
- Be sure to rinse the canned beans before adding them to the pan. It will provide a cleaner bases for the added flavors.
- It's important to make sure the beef facon, onions and ground beef are properly caramelized before adding in the beans and sauce.
