Game day is around the corner, and I am just obsessed with all the game day snacks and foods. No game day party will be complete without chips and dips. I never really thought about making homemade salsa, because jarred salsa can be delicious! Boy was I blown away when I made my own. It's like a different BREED. Get twice the amount of chips that you we're planning to buy because this 5 minute fresh chunky salsa will knock your socks off! (In a really good not too spicy kind of way)

ingredients for 5 minute fresh chunky salsa

Ingredients needed to make 5 minute fresh chunky salsa:

    • Roma/plum tomatoes- I find that these are the best tomatoes for blending. They will chop nicely and are firm and full of flavor. If you don't use these tomatoes, your salsa might end up being too watery.
    • Crushed tomatoes- I love the combination of both fresh and crushed tomatoes. If you want, you can totally skip the crushed tomatoes.
    • Cilantro- Fresh cilantro will give the salsa the best flavor.
    • Salt
    • Cumin
    • Jalapenos- You can play around with heat levels and add more jalapenos then I recommend if your looking for a spicier salsa.
    • Red onion
    • Garlic
    • Lime juice

    How to make chunky salsa:

Start by cutting the Roma tomatoes into ¼'s. Then cut the jalapeno into ¼ and deseed for a more mild salsa. Add the tomatoes, jalapeno, red onion, cilantro, garlic and lime juice to a food processor. Pulse a couple of times until the desired consistency is reached. Fold in the spices and crushed tomatoes. For best results, chill for a minimum of 30 minutes before serving with chips!

    Storing:

This chunky salsa will last for 5-7 stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

    Tips and tricks:

    1. Use a food processor with a "pulse" setting. This allows you to control the the texture and get it to being just the way you like it.
    2. Adjust the spice level with the number of jalapenos you add and if you keep the seeds and membrane intact or not. I prefer mine mild, so I use 1 jalapeno with the seeds and membrane removed.
    3. Let it sit before you eat it! This allows the flavors to marinate.
