    Hot honey mozzarella sticks

Published: Dec 21, 2025 by tomatoestomahtos · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

I had one more good Chanukah themed recipe scheduled for this week and I honestly could not figure out what to share! It suddenly came to me when my kids requested homemade mozzarella sticks- something they know i'll only patchke with for special occasions. It seems everything is coated in hot honey lately, and hot honey mozzarella sticks sounded like something I would get the frying gear out for, even though Chanukah is almost over! I'm sure you'll agree!

ingredients for honey honey mozzarella sticks

    Ingredients needed:

    • Mozzarella sticks- also known as cheese sticks. A staple in our refrigerator since we make stuffed crust pizza once a week!
    • All- purpose flour
    • Smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt- I love this mix of spices, but if your worried the littles won't eat it, you can adjust to your preference!
    • Eggs
    • Plain bread crumbs
    • Hot sauce- in this recipe I add half the amount so it's not too spicy. However, feel free to do a 1:1 ratio if you like the heat!
    • Honey

How to make hot honey mozzarella sticks:

    1. Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and setting it aside.
    2. Set up your breading station with flour and the spices in a shallow bowl, the eggs in a another bowl, and the bread crumbs in a third bowl.
    3. Remove the cheese sticks from their packaging and bread each one starting from the seasoned flour, then dipping in egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs.
    4. Place the breaded sticks on the baking sheet.
    5. Place the baking sheet into the freezer and freeze for at least 60 minutes for the best results.
    6. When time is almost up, heat oil to 350F in a sauce pan over medium-low heat.
    7. Fry the sticks for approximately1- 2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan so the oil maintains its temperature.
    8. Place fried sticks on a cooling rack set over a paper towel.
    9. Whisk together the honey and hot sauce and toss the fried sticks in the sauce.
    10. Serve immediately with ranch dressing.

Making the mozzarella sticks in advance:

You can bread them ahead of time and keep them in the freezer until your ready to fry.

The sauce can be made in advance as well!

Tips and tricks for hot honey mozzarella sticks

    1. The mozzarella sticks must be frozen properly so that the cheese doesn't start to ooze out when you fry them.
    2. The oil should be the right temperature (350F) so that the mozzarella sticks cook quickly.
    3. You can adjust ratio of hot sauce up to a 1:1 ratio to make them more spicy!
