Published: Dec 29, 2024 · Modified: Jun 6, 2025 by tomatoestomahtos · This post may contain affiliate links ·

You know me, I'm not the type to go threading pasta on a skewer unless it's absolutely amazing! I was so hesitant of this viral trend I saw popping up all over social media, but when I tried it out, I was so excited! It is such a fun way to enjoy a classic dish. It's perfect for an appetizer or as a party dish. Sure, it's a little tedious to make then my recipes usually are, but boy is it fun! Gather the family around we're going to make baked ziti pasta on a skewer. Okay but seriously, kids are perfect for tasks like threading pasta on a stick.

ingredients for baked ziti pasta on a skewer

What do I need to make baked ziti pasta on a skewer?

    • Ziti noodles- I'm a purest so I used ziti noodles. You can also use rigatoni or penne.
    • Ricotta cheese
    • Garlic powder
    • Salt and ground black pepper
    • Marinara sauce
    • Grated parmesan cheese
    • Mozzarella cheese
    • 10" skewers

    Directions:

Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 425F. Start by cooking the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. While the pasta is cooking, mix the ricotta cheese with garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Once the pasta has reached al dente, strain it and set aside to cool. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Skewer the cooled pasta onto the skewers. Use a spoon to spread big spoons of ricotta over the pasta skewers, then top with marinara sauce, parmesan cheese, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat until all the pasta is used up. Bake for 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Feel free to broil it for 30 seconds or so at this point if you would like to.

    Storing and reheating

Pasta skewers are best when fresh. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in a preheated oven (350°F).

Tips for baked ziti pasta on a skewer

    • Don't overcook the pasta. Aim for al dente, which means slightly firm to the bite. Each pasta shape will be slightly different timing, so refer to the box for details
    • Choose a shape that skewers well like penne, ziti or rigatoni.
    • Soak wooden skewers for at least 30 minutes before skewering on the pasta.
    • You can make these gluten free by using gluten free noodles.
