It's the season of apples! A great fall dessert: apple pie crumble bars is the perfect way to embrace the season. The squares resemble apple pie with a crust on the bottom, a crumble on top. and juicy cinnamon apples tucked in between.
Ingredients:
- Dry ingredients: Sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, all-purpose flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg/ (optional)
- Wet ingredients: Vanilla, egg, butter or margarine.
- Apples: Granny smith apples are my favorite! Feel free to use your favorite baking apple like Cortland, Fuji or Gala.
How to make a great fall dessert: apple pie crumble bars
Combine the sugars, baking powder, flour and salt in a bowl. Add in the egg and vanilla extract. Add in the butter and crumble everything together with your fingers. Press ¾ of the crumbs topping into the bottom of a 8x8 pan fitted with parchment paper. Mix the filling ingredients together and pour on top of the crust. Crumble the remaining crumbs on top of the filling.
Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes. Cool completely before slicing.
How to store apple pie crumble bars:
- On the counter. Allow bars to cool completely, then store in an airtight container or wrap individually in plastic wrap. They will keep on the counter for 2 days.
- In the fridge. You can also store these in the fridge for up to 5 days. Bring them closer to room temperature before serving again, if preferred.
- To freeze: These also freeze well in a freeze-safe container up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and bring to room temperature before serving.
