I find it difficult to eat breakfast first thing in the morning. I usually have a coffee and then a smoothie about 1 ½ hours later. Recently, I was traveling for work and had this delicious creamy banana and date smoothie from a local place. The only thing is, it was about $13. I liked the smoothie so much, I thought I could genuinely enjoy it for at least a few weeks before I switched to something else for a while. I didn't want to do the math though. So I threw the ingredient list in the blender and created my own version. It was actually amazing and I have been enjoying it for almost a month now. It's the perfect morning pick me up or afternoon treat!

Here's what you need:
- Bananas- fresh or frozen. Personally I like my smoothies on the thicker, but still drinkable side so I do prefer a frozen banana.
- Cocoa powder- natural and unsweetened for that chocolatey flavor.
- Medjool date- pitted. Hot tip, if the date is not super soft, soak it in hot water before adding it to the smoothie. You could leave the date whole before blending and enjoy caramel bits throughout your drink or cut it up into pieces to blend better.
- Almond butter
- Milk- I prefer whole milk. You can use the milk of your choice.
- Ice
- Protein powder (optional) - unflavored for an extra kick of protein, keeping you fuller for longer.
- Cocoa nibs (optional)- they don't get blended so this is only if you enjoy small crunchy bites for texture.
