Course: Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 2 packages hot dogs
  • ¼ cup mustard
  • ½ cup bbq rub recipe below
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
BBQ rub
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Method

  1. Combine the dry rub in a bowl. If using a store bought rub, simply skip this step.
  2. Preheat oven to 275 degrees F. In an oven safe dish, toss the hot dogs with mustard, liquid smoke and dry rub mixture until evenly coated. Bake for 1 hour.
  3. Remove the hot dogs from the oven and slice into thirds. Top them with brown sugar and bbq sauce. Raise the temperature of your oven to 350F. Return the hot dogs to the oven for another 20 minutes. Toss the hot dogs 1-2x throughout the process.
  4. Raise the temperature again to 400F and bake an additional 10 minutes. Once they are caramelized and browned, remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
